A quick look into why I started this blog
Hey everyone! 👋
Thanks for checking out my portfolio page and blog. It’s something I’ve been working on for a little while now, and wanted to start with a quick post about why I finally decided to start writing.
If you know me personally, you know this is something I’ve been talking about getting into for a long time. Technical writing is something I always thought I’d enjoy but never actually sat down to start. I can’t promise the content is going to be anything mind-blowing, but at the very least, it’s a place for me to start documenting what I’m learning.
Over my career, I’ve realized that some of my most rewarding experiences have come from helping others learn, whether it was working with teammates or tutoring at a coding bootcamp.
While at the bootcamp, I started to really see the difference between being able to use a technology and being able to teach it. I’d often brush up on topics like React Hooks before one-on-ones with students who had just covered them. I used React Hooks every day at work, but preparing to teach them presented new challenges, and gave me a whole new perspective.
I’m hoping to get some of that same knowledge gain through writing these posts. I’m by no means an expert in many of the topics I’ll cover, and I don’t want to come across that way. But, I do hope others can still learn something new along the way.
One thing I’ve believed throughout my career is that even a senior dev with 20+ years of experience can learn from someone newer. Sometimes it’s just a fresh perspective or a different way of approaching a problem. That’s what I want these posts to represent: not advice from someone “all knowing,” but thoughts from someone trying to keep learning, improve as a writer, and share what’s been useful.
